China’s charity sector has been developing quickly under the support of the internet. Currently, more than 80 percent of charitable money of foundations comes from the internet, said an official with the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
Last year, 28 million donors donated more than 830 million yuan online on the 99 Charity Day, an annual online donating event on Sept. 9 initiated by the Tencent Foundation in 2015.
Last year, about 8.46 billion clicks and donations were made on 20 fundraising platforms designated by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, according to Jia Xiaojiu, director of the ministrys charity promotion and social work department.
Li Bo, inspector at the department, said the ministry has enacted relevant documents to guide and regulate online charity. It has established a credit blacklist of those who are involved in misconducts.
