6.5-magnitude quake strikes off Japans Mie Prefecture, no tsunami warning issued

TOKYO, July 28 — An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 on Sunday struck off the southeast coast of Mie Prefecture of Japan, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The temblor occurred at 03:31 a.m. local time, with its epicenter at a latitude of 33.0 degrees north and a longitude of 137.4 degrees east, and at a depth of 420 km.

The quake logged 4 in some parts of Mie Prefecture on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7.

So far no tsunami warning has been issued.
