Russias aerospace forces to receive 22 fifth-generation Su-57 fighters by 2025

MOSCOW, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) — Russias aerospace forces will receive 22 fifth-generation Su-57 fighters by 2025, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Monday.

In terms of aviation equipment, an early delivery of 94 aircraft and helicopters is planned ahead of schedule by the end of 2024, Shoigu said during an annual meeting of the Defense Ministry Board.

Twenty-two Su-57 fighters will be among them, the number of which will be increased to 76 by 2028, Shoigu added.

The fighter, formerly known as T-50, is a single-seat twin-engine jet featuring super maneuverability and supersonic flight capability.

Russian fighter intercepts Japanese military plane

MOSCOW, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) — A Russian fighter jet intercepted a Japanese military aircraft over Far Eastern seas, the Russian Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

The Russian airspace control detected an air object approaching the Russian state border over the neutral waters of the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk, the ministry said.

A Su-30 fighter was scrambled and its crew identified the target as an OP-3C patrol plane belonging to the Japanese air force, it said.

The Russian plane then escorted the Japanese aircraft over the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk to ensure that it did not violate the Russian state border.

Xi signs order to publish regulations on military logistics

BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) — Xi Jinping, chairman of the Central Military Commission, has signed an order to release regulations on military logistics, which will serve as the main rules in relevant field.

The 40-article document will set rules regarding the standards of the militarys logistics work and the building of a strong and modernized logistics system for the military, ensuring that the military effectively performs its missions and tasks of the new era.

The regulations will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2021.

China Coast Guard conducts joint Beibu Gulf patrol with Vietnamese counterpart

BEIJING, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) — The China Coast Guard (CCG) and its Vietnamese counterpart carried out a joint patrol in the Beibu Gulf from Monday to Wednesday.

The patrol lasted 60 hours and covered 788 nautical miles, during which some fishing vessels from both countries were reminded of heeding proper practices, according to a CCG statement, which described the maritime production and operation as in an overall good order.

This was the 20th joint patrol by maritime law enforcement agencies of China and Vietnam in the waters of the Beibu Gulf since 2006, the CCG noted, adding that both sides will further law enforcement cooperation to jointly uphold security and stability in the Beibu Gulf.

China reaffirms defensive nature of its national defense policy in newly revised law

China has reaffirmed the defensive nature of its national defense policy as its top legislative body adopted new revisions to the National Defense Law, renewing tasks and goals as well as cementing policies.

According to an official working for the legislative bureau under Chinas Central Military Commission (CMC), the newly revised defense bill explicitly states that China follows a defensive national defense policy and will actively promote international military communication and cooperation, showing its anti-war and peace-loving beliefs.

The Standing Committee of the 13th National Peoples Congress (NPC), Chinas top legislature, concluded its 24th session on Saturday with multiple laws adopted, including the revised National Defense Law.

The new National Defense Law will come into effect on January 1, 2021.

The revision to the National Defense Law stipulates that the country encourages and supports eligible citizens and enterprises to make investments in the national defense sector, guarantees their legitimate rights and interests, and provides them with preferential policies according to the law.

The official also said that the law has some newly added contents for strengthening national defense for all citizens and improving their national defense skills.

Other revisions include complementing the tasks and goals for the construction of the armed forces, addressing the defense needs of new security areas, clarifying defense policies in major security areas, and strengthening the protection of the rights of military personnel.
